YEO Choon Chong
Er YEO Choon Chong leads 3,000 multi-disciplinary planners, architects and engineers in Surbana Jurong Group’s ASEAN Division. The Division operates in key markets in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam helping clients transition to a smart and sustainable future in urban and infrastructure sectors. Choon Chong has over 30 years of experience managing large scale complex projects in Singapore as well as the Middle East and Southeast Asia. He is a keen advocate of setting industry standards in innovative design, sustainability and buildability and sits on several professional committees to promote these initiatives, including Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority. Choon Chong is a recipient of numerous Buildability and DESEA (Design & Engineering Safety Excellence) awards over the years in recognition of his contributions to raising the standards of Singapore’s built environment. As a key member of the management team, Choon Chong is responsible for driving the Group’s growth in ASEAN, a rapidly growing urban region with vast opportunities for decarbonisation and adaptations of renewable energy.
Choon Chong is also the Group Managing Director of KTP Consultants Pte Ltd. He joined Surbana Jurong in 2016 and is a proven veteran and qualified engineer, managing domestic and international infrastructure and architectural/engineering consultancy business. He is now in charge of managing a multi-disciplinary portfolio across the ASEAN region.
Choon Chong started his engineering career with Arup as graduate engineer and was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to be involved in iconic projects such as the “cloud” at La Grande Arche Paris and Moorgate Hall London during his infancy years. He later returned to Singapore after attaining his professional Chartered qualification. In Singapore, he spent 17 years with Meinhardt Group, starting as a Technical Director and quickly rose to the position of Asian Board Director, overseeing projects in Middle East & South East Asia. These projects included the iconic Dubai Mall, Ocean Height and KL Sentral station.
In 2010 Choon Chong transitioned to an entrepreneurial role by taking a stake in an established local engineering firm KTP Consultants. He managed to expand KTP from a local business of 50 employees to a firm of over 300 professionals, with several offices in Asia. In 2015, KTP was then acquired by Surbana Jurong.
